Creating a proof of concept MVP for funding
Our journey from “Concept” to “MVP” began with a dedicated team and a thorough discovery phase. First, we carefully assessed the project’s current state, identified core objectives, and pinpointed the crucial successes we aimed to achieve in the final product. This phase was vital, and our team’s unwavering commitment ensured a strong foundation for the product.
The discovery phase also helped us identify elements that didn’t function as intended during the proof of concept stage. By addressing these early on, we guaranteed that the foundation of our product was strong before moving forward. This process laid the groundwork for a smooth transition into the more detailed development phases.
Subsequently, a series of kick-off meetings with Leonard Carey, the CEO and founder of Aware Technologies, provided valuable insights. These meetings delved deep into the project’s history, unravelling the intricacies of the proof of concept and exploring the innovative solutions the team had already formulated. This inspired us and set the stage for the project’s vast potential.
Leonard and his team, the original developers of the proof of concept, overcame numerous challenges, from encoding small data packets for transmission over radio and LTE networks to refining the manufacturing process for the final boards and cases. This knowledge was instrumental in shaping our approach to scaling the project for broader testing and eventual commercial rollout.
With the technical foundations firmly in place, we focused on the project’s brand, user experience (UX), and user interface (UI) components. The team’s substantial efforts in creating a complete branding experience, including app screens for various purposes, gave us a strong visual and conceptual foundation. This enabled us to develop a unified set of applications, websites, and tools aligned with the brand’s identity, providing an intuitive and seamless user experience.
Due to this project’s substantial amount of anticipated data, establishing a robust and scalable database and app architecture was crucial. Thus, we engaged in in-depth sessions to meticulously map the system, comprehending every detail and complexity involved.
Our team’s adaptability was critical in navigating the prototyping and testing phase. Before committing to a custom-built board, we utilised prototype boards from Pycom. These versatile and programmable devices allowed rapid prototyping of different system components and swift beta testing, facilitating quick iterations and necessitating adjustments before finalizing the hardware design, instilling confidence in the project’s eventual success.
The project also involved exploring the possibilities presented by the collected data. The AwareTag app leverages intelligent sensors and advanced analytics to monitor conditions within homes and commercial spaces, focusing on crucial areas such as dampness, mould, and insulation efficiency. By processing this data, the app provides users with actionable insights, such as humidity levels and ventilation performance, essential for maintaining a healthy environment.
Unique scientific calculations were developed to enhance usability. They enable users to visualize their space in 3D and pinpoint issues directly on their floor plans.
Incorporating these features equips the AwareTag app with the ability to inform users about their environment’s current state and empower them to make informed decisions on necessary repairs, retrofits, and other improvements. This functionality particularly benefits housing associations and landlords aiming to uphold their tenants’ safe and healthy living conditions.
We look forward to seeing this MVP funded and transformed into a final product to be used across the UK!
